Accessories of the Nokia N-Gage QD PART 1

Introduction

In the early 2000s, Nokia, a giant in the mobile phone industry, ventured into the gaming market with its hybrid console, the Nokia N-Gage. Although the console did not achieve the success anticipated and was discontinued in 2006, it left behind an intriguing legacy, particularly in terms of accessories. In this article, we will explore the most unique accessories of the N-Gage, many of which were primarily sold in Spain through an online store, making them sought-after collector’s items. Also these accessories were given to distributors and Nokia employees so also they exists in other countries.

The store was: www.n-gage.com/store probably a worldwide shop but i only found items sold in Spain, the rest I found worldwide were from employees or people related to them. My guess is because of the long life of N-GAGE in Spain, probably was the latest market with some user base, because of that all these accessories were sold in Spain and also some SPECIAL PACKS where released there with some accessories. Also was a way to get rid of all these unsold accessories that the rest of the world was not interested on.

This is a small catalog distributed in Spain with all the accessories you could buy on the online store from Spain of Nokia N-GAGE

Unique Accessories of the Nokia N-Gage

  1. NOKIA N-GAGE QD SPEAKER: Is a speaker with a small battery to amplify the sound of the n-gage that was one of the problems it had, even the QD version.
  2. NOKIA N-GAGE MMC EXPANDER: Because of the n-gage even the qd can have only one MMC loaded, and games use the whole MMC and you can`t add more games inside they created this accessory to have two MMC at the same time on the N-GAGE, but only one can be selected with a physical switch. From my point of view the error was to don’t let people have more than one game on each MMC, they in fact can handle lot of games and programs in one single MMC but because of piracy they did this stupid solution.
  3. Headsets : Since the N-Gage also functioned as a phone, headsets were a practical accessory. Additionally, adapters allowed the use of standard headphones with the device.
  4. Wireless Headsets: They did in theory wireless Bluetooth headsets, not in my collection not sure if they really exists.
  5. NOKIA N-GAGE QD CASE: A lesser-known accessory was this case, not too many still a live in others collections, i have a few of them and also sold some or exchanged.
  6. MMC CARDS ALUMINUM BOX: This aluminum box can have 6 MMC, is n-gage branded and are not as rare as the rest of accessories, but hard to find.
  7. MMC CARDS SPECIAL EDITION BOX: Using same design as the QD CASE, this small box can have lot of MMC cards very protected with the structure of the box.
  8. THE NOKIA N-GAGE LANYARD: There are some Nokia n-gage lanyards but there was one you could buy on the store with a special design.

The Rare Availability in Spain

Interestingly, many of these accessories had limited distribution outside of key markets like Spain. In Spain, an online store became the main distributor of these products, making them even rarer and more sought-after today. The combination of limited distribution and the console’s early cancellation has turned these accessories into coveted items for collectors worldwide.

Conclusion

While the Nokia N-Gage did not revolutionize the gaming market as anticipated, its legacy lives on through its accessories, especially those hard to find. For collectors and enthusiasts of video game history, these accessories represent a fascinating window into an era of experimentation and risk in the industry.
